A laureate of the 2017 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium, Cellist Seung-Min Kang recorded Toshio Hosokawa’s Cello Concerto, “Sublimation”, as a part of Queen Elisabeth Competition’s CD release, which attracted various medias such as Canvas, RTBF, Le Soir (Belgium), and Japan’s Strad Magazine.

Ms. Kang is the fifth prize winner at the 2015 International Tchaikovksy Cello Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia, the first Korean prize winner in the cello division. Previously, she was awarded the first prize at the First Gaspar Cassado International Cello Competition in 2006, first prize at the Johansen International Competition in 2003, the second prize at the Young Tchaikovsky Competition in 2002, and a special prize at the 2009 Rostropovich Cello Competition in Paris. In Korea, she was the first prize winner of the top three competitions in the county; Dong-A Newspaper(2004), Ewha-Kyunghyang(2002), and Korea Times(2001) competitions.

An active performer, Ms. Kang has given numerous concerts and recitals internationally. She began concertizing since age eleven, appearing as a soloist for the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, she has performed with the Seoul Chamber Orchestra, Suwon Philharmonic, Incheon Philharmonic, Changwon Philharmonic, Gwacheon Philharmonic, Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Monte Carlo Philharmonic, St. Christoper Festival Orchestra, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, St.Petersburg Philharmonic, Mariinsky Orchestra. Additionally, Ms. Kang was invited to the International Mariinsky Far East Festival in Russia, Berlin- Kozerthaus, Berlin- Phillharmonie, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Seoul Spring Festival, Ricardo Castro Festival, Pyongchang Winter Festival, Pyongchang Special Music Festival,Great Mountain Music Festival, and Eumyeon International Festival to perform and to give masterclasses.

Born in Seoul, Korea, Seung-Min Kang began her cello studies at the age of eight. After graduating from Yewon Arts School, she was granted a special admission to the Bachelor’s degree at the Korea National University of Arts at age fifteen as part of the school’s prodigy program studying under Myung Wha Chung and Hyoung Won Chang. In 2007, Ms. Kang moved to Berlin, Germany and continued her studies with Prof. David Geringas and Prof. Troels Svane at the Hochshule fur Musik Hanns Eisler where she received her diploma and Konzertexamen diploma.
